The Directorate of Antiquities and Museums in Aleppo Governorate announced on Thursday that more than 750 foreign delegations visited the archaeological and historical sites in the governorate during the first five months of the current year. The visits included the old markets, the citadels of Aleppo and Simon, and the entire old city with its buildings. Director of Antiquities and Museums in Aleppo, Munir Al-Qasqas, was quoted by "SANA" as saying: "The visiting delegations included groups from various countries, notably the United States, France, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, and many other European and Arab countries. This is part of the directorate's plan to attract tourists and archaeologists from all countries, enhance historical facilities, given their connection to boosting tourism and contributing to the national economy." Al-Qasqas explained that the Directorate of Antiquities and Museums is working on rehabilitating archaeological sites for tourism, removing war remnants, and preparing necessary studies for restoration according to required standards, to preserve the identity of archaeological landmarks. He also noted that the directorate is strengthening communication internationally, regionally, and locally to establish effective partnerships in restoring the old city, improving its condition, and conducting archaeological excavations that began at the historic Aleppo Citadel in collaboration with a German delegation.
