Despite signs of international dialogue, Italy is not optimistic about a quick peace in Ukraine

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani stated that the prospect of peace in Ukraine remains elusive, noting that the recent meeting in Washington was a new step towards finding a resolution to the conflict, but he emphasized that the glimmer of hope "remains weak".
Tajani added in statements to the Journal that the meeting represented a "step forward" by initiating a tangible dialogue that paves the way for bilateral discussions, affirming that the agreement on the fundamental principle of ensuring Ukrainian security represents a positive moment in the path to peace.
This comes after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's meeting with his American counterpart at the White House, followed by an expanded meeting of European Union leaders to discuss ways to end the crisis.
For his part, the American president clarified that the topic of security guarantees for Ukraine was discussed at the summit level, confirming that these guarantees will be provided jointly by European countries in coordination with Washington.
Bloomberg reported, citing informed sources, that work on drafting security guarantees will begin immediately, paving the way for a potential meeting between Zelensky and the Russian president.
