A number of Lebanese army soldiers were killed on Saturday due to the explosion of unexploded ordnance from the Israeli occupation in southern Lebanon, according to the Lebanese news agency.
The agency clarified that the explosion occurred during the dismantling of old ordnance by an engineering unit of the Lebanese army, in the area between the town of Majdelzoun and the town of Zbaqin in the Tyre district. The agency confirmed that the incident resulted in the deaths of several soldiers and injuries.
In the context of the incident, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun made a phone call to the commander of the Lebanese army, General Rudolf Haikal, to inquire about the details of the incident, which occurred while the engineering unit members were working to retrieve and dismantle the ordnance.
President Aoun expressed his deep sorrow for the killing of the military personnel, offering his heartfelt condolences to their families and to the Lebanese army.
