The Syrian capital, Damascus, witnessed a strong explosion last night, Saturday, August 16, shaking the Mezzeh neighborhood west of the city, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
According to Syrian television, the explosion was caused by an explosive device planted inside an old car that was parked on one of the streets in the neighborhood, near the "Golden" hotel in Mezzeh.
The sound of the explosion echoed across various parts of the area, causing panic among residents.
Official sources confirmed that the explosion did not result in any human injuries, while material damage was recorded to the car and its surroundings. Ambulances were seen heading in large numbers to the scene of the incident, amid noticeable security deployment.
The relevant authorities are still investigating the circumstances of the explosion and the party responsible for planting the explosive device, while no entity has yet issued an official statement clarifying additional details.
