The Syrian Minister of Transport, Dr. Yarob Badr, discussed with Philippe Mathieu, the director of the French company "Matier", specialized in bridge construction, and his accompanying delegation, the prospects of cooperation between the two sides in the field of reconstructing and repairing roads and bridges in Syria.
According to the official SANA agency, the meeting, held at the ministry building in Damascus, addressed the latest developments of the comprehensive cooperation agreement concluded between the General Establishment of Road Transport and the company in 2023. The agreement aims to reconstruct and repair 32 bridges in various Syrian regions, reviewing priorities especially after liberation.
Both sides emphasized the importance of this agreement in supporting the infrastructure of the road sector, especially in light of the damages that many bridges have suffered in recent years. It was also confirmed that the agreement remains open to include additional bridges to be identified through meetings of the technical committees established between the General Establishment of Road Transport and the French company, based on the presented priorities.
Minister Badr stressed during the meeting the importance of enhancing cooperation with experienced global companies, especially in the reconstruction phase, pointing to the need to apply the latest technologies in implementing transportation projects to ensure efficiency, quality, and expedited completion.
On his part, Mathieu expressed his company's readiness to provide its technical and engineering expertise in the rehabilitation and construction of bridges, emphasizing the necessity of setting initial timetables and detailed studies to ensure actual commencement at the earliest opportunity.
