Damascus International Airport witnessed an important event in the process of resuming air relations between Syria and the United Arab Emirates, as the first flight of the Emirati airline "Air Arabia" coming from Sharjah International Airport landed, in a step that enhances air traffic and opens up new prospects for economic and touristic cooperation between the two countries.
The plane was officially welcomed, with the reception committee including the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Damascus, Mr. Hassan Ahmed Al Shihy, along with the Director of Damascus International Airport, Engineer Anis Flouh, and several officials from the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority, in addition to the Regional Manager of the Levant region at Air Arabia, Mr. Abdullah Rahhal.
The Syrian Civil Aviation Authority confirmed through its official channel on Telegram that this step is part of a gradual plan to resume foreign flights to Syria, in light of the noticeable improvement in the regional and international air transport environment.
Damascus International Airport also received, on July 1st, the first flight of the Turkish company "AJet" coming from Istanbul, reflecting the accelerated pace towards revitalizing the Syrian aviation sector and attracting more international airlines.
This event marks a significant milestone in the development of Syrian-Emirati relations, enhancing international confidence in Syria's return to the regional aviation map, amid increasing interest from investors and airlines in exploring promising opportunities in the Syrian market.
