The French Ministry of Agriculture announced yesterday, Tuesday, August 13, the death of two people and the infection of 21 others with listeriosis, which is a bacterial infection transmitted through food.
The ministry clarified that the potential infections are linked to the consumption of soft cheese produced by a French company, and many of this company's products have been withdrawn from the markets in anticipation of any health risks.
The ministry specifically urged pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immunity to exercise caution and pay attention to symptoms of the disease such as fever, headache, and muscle pain, warning that listeriosis can develop seriously, with an incubation period of up to eight weeks.
It is noted that listeriosis is an infectious disease caused by the listeria bacteria, which naturally occurs in the environment.
Symptoms of the disease often do not appear in individuals with strong immunity, or may resemble flu symptoms with vomiting and diarrhea, making the infection unnoticed in many cases.
In light of these health developments, French authorities urge everyone to exercise caution and follow health guidelines to prevent the spread of infection, especially among the most vulnerable groups.
