The firefighting teams of the Syrian Civil Defense extinguished more than 13 fires that broke out in different areas in the countryside of Latakia province during the past 24 hours.
The Director of the Civil Defense in the Syrian coast, Abdul Kafi Kayal, was quoted by SANA as saying that the extinguished fires varied between fires in industrial facilities, fuel stations, commercial shops, and grasslands, in addition to forest fires that the firefighting teams are still monitoring and tracking to prevent the re-ignition of flames.
Kayal mentioned that helicopters are being used to extinguish the fire in the Al-Atira area in Jabal Turkman, and the fire that broke out in the Juhman Valley in the Latakia countryside, in order to contain and control the fires, given the significant challenges facing the firefighting teams due to the presence of unexploded mines and ammunition left by the defunct regime, which pose a great danger to the safety of the teams, in addition to the rugged terrain of the area and the lack of roads separating the fire spots, delaying the extinguishing operations.
Kayal called for avoiding igniting fires near agricultural lands or forests, not throwing cigarette butts or glass bottles in forested areas, and immediate reporting of any fire to expedite the response and minimize damages.
