Chinese authorities detain senior diplomat for investigation amid speculation about his political future

The American newspaper "The Wall Street Journal" revealed that Chinese authorities are investigating Liu Jianchao, one of the prominent diplomats in the Chinese Communist Party, in a move that has raised many questions about his political future.
Liu was interrogated after returning to Beijing in late July following a foreign work trip.
Liu Jianchao (61 years old) is considered one of the most prominent diplomatic figures in China, as he heads the body responsible for managing relations with foreign political parties. Since taking this position in 2022, he has conducted extensive diplomatic tours that included more than 20 countries, where he met with officials from around 160 countries worldwide. These activities have sparked many speculations that Liu may be a candidate for the position of Chinese Foreign Minister in the near future.
One of the notable milestones in Liu's career was his meetings with former U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, where they held meetings in Washington to enhance cooperation between the two countries. This visit served as an additional impetus for many political observers to predict that Liu is one of the figures who may emerge in international Chinese politics, especially in the position of Foreign Minister.
Despite the abundance of diplomatic activities Liu has undertaken, the current investigations being conducted by Chinese authorities remain mysterious in their details.
The reasons for the investigation or the subjects he is being questioned about have not been announced, which adds to the ambiguity surrounding this case, especially amid various speculations about the impact of these investigations on his political future.
