China is increasing customs tariffs on American goods to 125% starting from April 12th.

The Chinese Ministry of Finance announced today, Friday, the increase of additional customs tariffs on American imports from 84% to 125%, with the decision set to take effect starting April 12, 2025, as reported by Reuters.
The Ministry stated in an official statement that "China will ignore any escalatory steps by the United States," confirming that Beijing will not hesitate to take strict countermeasures to defend its economic and sovereign interests.
The statement added: "If the United States persists in fundamentally violating Chinese interests, China will fight to the end."
Similarly, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce issued a separate statement calling on the United States to retract mutual customs tariffs and correct its "wrong trade practices."
The statement read: "China strongly condemns the unilateral measures taken by the United States and has taken firm measures to protect its trade rights and interests."
Escalating Trade Tensions Between Beijing and Washington
This move indicates the escalation of trade war between China and the United States, as Beijing seeks to strongly respond to any measures it deems unfair or discriminatory against Chinese goods. Observers expect these developments to impact global markets and international supply chains, especially amid the increasing tensions between the world's two largest economies.
