Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau describes himself as a "Zionist."

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that he considers himself a "Zionist," indicating that Zionism simply means the right of the Jewish people to self-determination, like all other peoples in the world.
This came during his speech at the "National Forum to Combat Anti-Semitism" held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, in the capital Ottawa.
Trudeau emphasized that "no one in Canada should be afraid to call themselves a Zionist," expressing his concern about what he described as "increasing ignorance and justification of the rise of anti-Semitism" since October 7, 2023, considering this development "unnatural."
However, Trudeau did not address the criticisms directed at Zionism as a racist ideology calling for the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from their lands.
This statement comes in the context of the support Trudeau has provided to Israel since the beginning of the war on Gaza on October 7, 2023.
Trudeau had announced his resignation on January 5th after serving in his position for 10 years, while continuing to carry out his duties until a successor is chosen by the Liberal Party.
