Ben Gvir calls on the Chief of Staff to implement any decision to occupy Gaza.. and divisions within the Israeli government

Amid rising trends within the Israeli government towards the complete occupation of the Gaza Strip, Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir called on Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir to fully commit to the political decision if made.
Ben Gvir confirmed in a tweet on the "X" platform today, Tuesday: "If we decide to occupy Gaza and subdue Hamas, the Chief of Staff will have to execute it," considering that "the Chief of Staff must clearly announce his commitment to the instructions of the political level".
For his part, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar supported the army's position, emphasizing that "the Chief of Staff and the army's position express unequivocally the political level," according to what was reported by "Al Arabiya".
The Israeli government is scheduled to hold a meeting today to discuss military expansion in Gaza and the complete occupation of the sector, along with a meeting of the Security Cabinet (the Cabinet) to direct the army on "how to achieve the war objectives".
The Chief of Staff, who opposes Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's plan, is expected to present the military cost of implementing this expansion plan.
Analysts believe that Netanyahu's return to military escalation reflects "confusion and a lack of a clear vision to achieve the war objectives," according to the "Associated Press". Meanwhile, others attribute this trend to political pressures resulting from videos released by Palestinian factions showing the suffering of Israeli hostages in Gaza, including scenes of a captive digging his own grave.
Ben Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich criticized Netanyahu for allowing humanitarian aid into Gaza, describing the decision as a "gift to Hamas".
In contrast, Israeli security agencies oppose military expansion, as the newspaper "Israel Hayom" reported from a senior military source that the Chief of Staff considers the occupation of Gaza a "strategic trap". The Israeli Broadcasting Authority also mentioned concerns that escalation could endanger the lives of prisoners.
According to Israeli media, Netanyahu sent a decisive message to Zamir stating: "If you are not comfortable with that, you should resign from your position," reflecting deep divisions between the political and military levels ahead of the anticipated meeting.
