At least 23 people, including 4 children, killed in an attack on a monastery in Myanmar

At least 23 people, including four children, were killed in an attack on a monastery in a village in the Sagaing region of Myanmar.
The head of the administration of the people in the Sagaing region, a pro-democracy group that controls parts of the central region, said the monastery was shelled in the early hours of Friday.
He told Reuters that the monastery housed about 200 people who had been displaced due to the fighting between the army and pro-democracy forces in the vicinity.
Myanmar has been in a state of conflict since the military crackdown on protests against the 2021 coup that ousted the elected government led by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi.
Days after a devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit the city of Sagaing on March 28, the government announced a temporary ceasefire to provide humanitarian relief and assist in rebuilding the area, following similar moves by armed groups opposed to the military council, according to the agency.
