Arrest of Wisam al-Assad in a Special Operation near the Lebanese Border

Special security teams from the General Intelligence Directorate, in coordination with the Ministry of Interior, managed to arrest Wisam Badee al-Assad (cousin of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad), one of the key figures involved in drug crimes and violations during the rule of the previous regime. The operation came after meticulous surveillance, where he was lured into a well-prepared ambush in the Tal Kalakh area, resulting in his arrest without resistance.
A statement from the Ministry of Interior confirmed that Wisam al-Assad is considered one of the most dangerous drug traffickers at both local and international levels, as his name was linked to international smuggling networks and he was involved in crimes against civilians during the years of the Syrian crisis. The statement indicated that the operation is part of ongoing security campaigns to pursue wanted individuals and enhance stability.
It is worth mentioning that the U.S. Treasury had imposed sanctions on Wisam al-Assad and Nouh Zaiter in March of last year for their role in producing and smuggling Captagon to support the Assad regime. The European Union also listed him for sanctions a month later for the same reasons.
According to an investigation by "Syria TV," Wisam al-Assad was involved in smuggling Israeli espionage devices into Syria through the Latakia port, where the shipment was discovered late last April inside solar energy equipment. The investigation confirmed that the beneficiaries of the devices were close to the Fourth Division and Wisam al-Assad himself.
