The Drug Control Branch in Damascus, in cooperation with the Border Security Directorate in the Zabadani area, was able today, Monday, to thwart an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of narcotic substances coming from Lebanese territory.

The Syrian Ministry of Interior stated via Telegram: "After a precise monitoring and follow-up operation, the Drug Control Branch in Damascus Governorate, in cooperation with the Border Security Directorate in the Zabadani area, was able to thwart an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of narcotic substances, estimated at about 498 kilograms of hashish, in addition to 198 packages of narcotic pills."

The ministry indicated that during the execution of the operation, a clash occurred with the smugglers, forcing them to abandon the cargo and flee. It confirmed that the entire quantity was seized, and the necessary report was organized.

The ministry added: "This operation comes as part of the ongoing efforts made by the Drug Control Administration to limit the smuggling and spread of this dangerous scourge, in order to preserve community security and the safety of its individuals."
