Protests continue in the American city of Los Angeles for the third consecutive day, in response to mass arrests of suspected illegal immigrants and the deployment of the National Guard in the city streets, which protesters consider unjustified.

In a dangerous development, Australian channel "9News" reported that their correspondent covering the protests in Los Angeles was injured in the leg by a rubber bullet fired by a US police officer.

The channel stated: "9News correspondent was shot during the chaotic protests that swept parts of Los Angeles. American correspondent Lauren Tomasi was hit in the leg by a rubber bullet fired by a police officer."
