Algeria announces its intention to cancel the bilateral agreement with France in response to Macron's decision to suspend the agreement

In an official statement, the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its rejection of what was stated in Macron's letter, describing it as a "complete absolution for France from its responsibilities", adding that holding the Algerian side fully responsible is "far from reality and truth".
The statement also emphasized that Algeria has never requested the signing of an agreement regarding visa exemptions, but rather France has repeatedly initiated the proposal, confirming that the suspension of the agreement by Paris opens the door for Algeria to declare its outright abrogation.
The Algerian response came two days after Macron announced his government's intention to adopt a more "firm and determined" approach in dealing with Algeria, where he called for the suspension of the 2013 agreement regarding visa exemptions for Algerian officials. The French president linked his position to what he described as "worrying situations" related to cases such as writer Boualem Sansal and journalist Christophe Glaz, who are detained in Algeria, demanding additional steps in this regard.
Meanwhile, Le Figaro revealed that Macron sent a letter to Prime Minister François Bayrou, in which he requested an official suspension of the application of the agreement signed with Algeria in 2013, which grants privileges in the visa system for holders of official and diplomatic passports.
