Algeria and Somalia called for an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council on Tuesday, April 8, to discuss the ongoing Israeli military escalation against Syrian territories, which poses a threat to security and stability in the region. Algerian media reports indicated that this call came after intensive coordination with the Arab Group in New York, which agreed on the need for swift action due to the increasing Israeli military operations inside Syria and their negative impact on regional security. The session is expected to take place on Thursday, April 10, after necessary arrangements are made with the Council's rotating presidency. In a statement on behalf of the Arab Group, Algerian Ambassador to the United Nations, Ammar Benjamia, expressed deep concern over the continued Israeli airstrikes targeting sites within Syrian territories, in addition to Israeli statements about plans to establish a "demilitarized zone" in southern Syria. The Ambassador emphasized that these actions constitute a blatant violation of Syria's sovereignty, endangering its territorial integrity, and called on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities to halt these violations that contradict the principles of the United Nations.
