In a remarkable step reconnecting the city of Aleppo with key regional hubs, the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority announced the launch of new flights to and from Aleppo International Airport, starting from early August.
The authority, through its official Telegram channel, stated that Turkish Airlines will begin operating direct daily flights between Istanbul and Aleppo from August 1, while Turkish AJet will also join on August 2 with daily flights between Sabiha Gokcen Airport in Istanbul and Aleppo.
In the Gulf region, Qatar Airways will launch three weekly flights between Doha and Aleppo starting from August 10, with the frequency increasing to four weekly flights from September, as confirmed by Alaa Salal, Director of Public Relations at the authority.
Salal pointed out that this step is part of a comprehensive plan to revitalize Aleppo International Airport and enhance its position as a key hub on the air transport map in the region, emphasizing that other airlines will soon join the airport network due to the increasing demand for travel to and from the city.
Meanwhile, Turkish airline "AJet" announced in a statement carried by Anadolu Agency that it will start its flights to Aleppo on August 2, adding a "new cultural capital in the Middle East" to its flight network, after launching its first flights to Damascus on July 1.
The company confirmed that its flights between Sabiha and Aleppo will operate four days a week, and round-trip tickets are now on sale. With the addition of Aleppo as a destination, AJet's network expands to 60 international destinations and 101 destinations including domestic flights.
It is worth mentioning that Aleppo International Airport currently hosts regular flights operated by:
Syrian Air
Royal Jordanian Airlines
Fly Sham Company.
