Russian media agency reported today, Monday, that Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov and his Iranian counterpart Aziz Nasirzadeh discussed enhancing military cooperation during a meeting in Moscow.
The meeting followed talks on Sunday between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ali Larijani, advisor to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, addressing the situation in the Middle East and issues related to the Iranian nuclear program.
Russia is linked by a strategic partnership treaty with Iran, and condemned Israeli and American airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites in June.
