The Iranian authorities confirmed this morning, Sunday, June 22, 2025, that there is no danger to the residents of Qom city, located south of Tehran, following the US attack on the Fordow uranium enrichment facility, built inside a mountain near the city, indicating that there is no radioactive contamination in the vicinity of the facility.
The Crisis Management Authority in Qom Province, in a statement carried by the official IRNA news agency, explained that "there is no danger to the residents of Qom and the surrounding areas" regarding the Fordow uranium enrichment facility.
The National Center for Nuclear Safety, operating under the supervision of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization, also confirmed that "no signs of contamination have been recorded", therefore "there is no danger to the residents living around the sites".
A representative of Qom in the Iranian Parliament stated that "there is no radiation due to the US attack", confirming that "no damage has been recorded in the underground facilities", and that "most of the damage at Fordow is on the surface only and can be repaired", adding that preliminary investigations have been conducted and there is no need for concern.
In a related context, the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization affirmed that "there is no danger to the residents living near the targeted nuclear sites", emphasizing that Tehran will continue its nuclear activities despite the US attacks on the main nuclear facilities.
The organization stated in a statement published by official media: "The Iranian Atomic Energy Organization assures the great Iranian nation that despite the malicious plots of its enemies, it will not allow the halt of the development of this national industry (nuclear) which is the result of the blood of nuclear martyrs".
Following the US strikes on the three Iranian nuclear facilities Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, US President Donald Trump announced that "the Iranian nuclear program is over", stressing that "Iran must make peace now".
These developments come amid escalating regional tensions regarding the Iranian nuclear program, amid fears of potential escalation in the conflict.
