After a day of Pope Francis being buried in his favorite church in the heart of Rome, citizens and visitors will be able to visit his grave today, Sunday, at the Cathedral of St. Mary Major.
The event comes after the death of the Vatican Pope, who departed from our world on Easter Sunday at the age of 88, following a long battle with illness.
It is expected that hundreds of thousands of mourners will flock to his burial site, where they will be able to offer condolences and visit his grave in the church, which will open its doors to the public at its usual opening time.
This place, which witnessed the funeral of the late Pope, is where his body was laid to rest after a majestic funeral mass held in St. Peter's Square, where around 250,000 people gathered to bid farewell to the spiritual leader of Christians.
Pope Francis was honored with a less elaborate funeral procession than those of previous popes, yet he received great popular affection, as around 150,000 people lined the streets of Rome during his procession to bid him farewell on his final journey.
Pope Francis passed away due to a stroke that led to a coma and severe heart complications, shortly after suffering from acute respiratory failure and high arterial blood pressure.
Despite his long illness, Pope Francis left a deep impact on the hearts of believers, with his simple motto in life remaining, as he always sought to serve humanity with deep faith.
