Security forces in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor have arrested a former member of the "National Defense Militia" affiliated with the previous regime on charges related to committing serious crimes, including desecration of corpses. According to local news networks, "Abdullah Obeid Sameer Al-Kaysoum," a resident of Al-Jafra village in eastern Deir ez-Zor, was detained by the General Security on Friday, March 28, on charges of committing war crimes and killing civilians. It was noted that "Al-Kaysoum was a former member of the National Defense Militia and is considered close to the prominent former Republican Guard officer, Essam Zahreddine, who led extensive operations during the years of the war." In recent weeks, the General Security Directorate has been apprehending a number of officers and militia leaders involved in violations against the Syrian people.
