The head of the UNHCR mission in Syria, Gonzalo Vargas Llosa, confirmed today, Wednesday, that support from international financial institutions and development banks is essential to allow the voluntary and sustainable return of Syrian refugees to their homeland.
In a post on the "X" platform, Llosa expressed his great satisfaction with the results of the first visit of the International Monetary Fund to Syria since 2009, to assess the economic and financial situation, and discuss the necessary support for the recovery of the Syrian economy.
Llosa pointed out that the UNHCR in Syria has been engaging in regular dialogue with the International Monetary Fund since early 2025.
