"A Step Towards an Endless War".. Macron Condemns Israel's Plans to Expand Military Operation in Gaza
French President Emmanuel Macron condemned Israel's plans to intensify its military operation in Gaza today, Monday, describing them as a harbinger of an unprecedented catastrophe, and proposed the formation of an international coalition with a mandate from the United Nations to stabilize Gaza.

Israel approved a plan last week to take control of the city of Gaza, in a move that expands the scope of its military operations in the devastated sector.

In statements sent by his office to journalists, Macron said: "The announcement by the Israeli cabinet to expand its operations in the city of Gaza and the areas of the tents in the Mawasi and to reoccupy them heralds an unprecedented impending catastrophe, and a step towards an endless war."

He added: "Israeli hostages and the residents of Gaza will remain the main victims of this strategy."

Through his proposal to form a UN-mandated mission in Gaza, Macron seeks to capitalize on the momentum created by his announcement last month of the intention to recognize a Palestinian state, which triggered a series of similar statements from Britain and Canada.

Macron indicated that the mission of the UN mission would be to secure the Gaza Strip, protect civilians, and support a Palestinian government that has not been specified. He added that the Security Council must work to establish the mission.

He said: "I have asked my team to work on this with our partners without delay."
