The city of Gaza is witnessing a new bloody escalation, as medical sources reported the death of 87 Palestinians in the past 24 hours, including 16 people who were waiting for humanitarian aid.
This comes amid intense and continuous bombing operations carried out by Israeli forces from the air and ground, focusing on the northern and eastern parts of the city reaching its depths.
The Israeli warplanes have launched strikes on civilian homes in the Sahaba area and the Al-Daraj neighborhood east of Gaza, coinciding with heavy gunfire targeting citizens and their homes on Al-Jalaa Street in the northern part of the city.
Israeli forces are also continuing to demolish residential buildings, which increases the suffering of the residents and complicates rescue operations.
Reports from the civil defense indicate that dozens are killed daily due to the intense Israeli bombardment, while the residents of Gaza—approximately two million people—are suffering from a suffocating blockade that has lasted for about 23 months, leading to a near-total collapse of infrastructure and essential services.
In a related field context, the Israeli army announced yesterday, Thursday, that it now controls about 40% of the city of Gaza and continues to implement its plan for complete control over the city located in the northern Gaza Strip.
A spokesperson stated that the forces are close to tightening their grip on half of the city.
Israel had declared the city of Gaza a "combat zone" last week, indicating that large parts of it have been classified as "red zones," where orders were issued to evacuate residents in anticipation of violent confrontations, according to the "Times of Israel" newspaper.
On another note, the European Commission described the Israeli war on Gaza as "genocide," reflecting the growing international concern over the scale of destruction and civilian casualties resulting from the ongoing military operations in the sector.
