Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed today, Thursday, that a Russian attack targeted an American industrial facility in the Zakarpattia region of western Ukraine, resulting in 15 injuries, including serious cases, in a new escalation that threatens international repercussions.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha explained that the nighttime airstrike hit an American electronics factory, causing widespread destruction at the site, noting that the facility is entirely civilian and has no connection to military or defense purposes.
The minister posted on the "X" platform stating: "The attack targeted a purely American electronics facility, with no connection to military infrastructure, which is a serious escalation and a direct provocation."
According to official sources, Russian forces used a massive arsenal of offensive means in this attack, including hundreds of drones, cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and hypersonic missiles, indicating complex coordination and a clear effort to destroy industrial infrastructure deep within Ukrainian territory.
This attack comes after a series of previous Russian strikes that targeted American interests in Ukraine, including the offices of Boeing in the capital Kyiv earlier this year, in a development that Kyiv considered a "deliberate targeting of American economic and technical presence in the country."
In this context, President Zelensky stated that he looks forward to a strong American response, warning that the continuation of these attacks without a firm response will encourage Moscow to escalate further. He said: "If Putin is not ready to sit at the negotiating table, we must respond forcefully to every aggression."
This Russian escalation raises questions about the limits of American involvement in the war and the possibilities of the conflict turning into a broader international confrontation, especially in light of the repeated targeting of Western interests within Ukraine.
