Liverpool, Premier League leaders, announced today, Thursday, the extension of their captain Virgil van Dijk's contract with the club, keeping the Dutch defender at Anfield until 2027, putting an end to months of speculation about his future.

Van Dijk commented on his contract extension in a statement, saying: "I feel proud and happy, it's unbelievable. The journey I've been on so far and to be able to extend my contract for another two years with this club. It's amazing, and I'm extremely happy."
