The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the first UN resolution by the "Human Rights Council" since the fall of the former regime, titled "Human Rights Situation in the Syrian Arab Republic," stating that it "reflects a new approach and a new chapter in Syria's history." The Ministry added in its statement: "Syria views this resolution positively and considers it a balanced step reflecting the positive efforts made by the Syrian government for the first time, despite the heavy legacy of the former regime." It continued: "Syria appreciates the constructive approach and positive cooperation shown by the member states and the core group during the drafting and adoption of the resolution, and commends the role of Britain as the penholder." Furthermore, it affirmed "Syria's steadfast commitment to enhancing and protecting the human rights and fundamental freedoms of the Syrian people, in accordance with its relevant international obligations," and stated: "It is ready to continue dialogue and positive, constructive cooperation that serves the interests of the Syrian people, preserves Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and enhances its security, stability, and prosperity."
