President Michel Aoun of Lebanon received today, Saturday, April 5, at Baabda Palace, the Deputy US Special Envoy to the Middle East Morgan Ortagus, accompanied by the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs and Syria Natasha Franceschi, in addition to the US Ambassador to Lebanon Dorothy Shea and accompanying delegation. The meeting discussed several important issues, including the situation in southern Lebanon, the work of the International Monitoring Committee, recent developments related to the Israeli withdrawal, as well as the situation on the Lebanese-Syrian border and coordination mechanisms between the two countries. On another note, the two sides discussed financial and economic reforms, and governmental efforts to combat corruption. A statement from the Lebanese Presidency highlighted that the meeting was constructive, featuring a private session between President Aoun and the US Deputy Special Envoy lasting about half an hour.
