Villarreal announces the signing of Partey from Arsenal and comments on the rape charges against him
Villarreal, the Spanish football club, announced today, Thursday, the signing of Ghanaian international player Thomas Partey on a free transfer after his contract with Arsenal expired.

The 32-year-old defensive midfielder joins Villarreal for one season and will start training with the team on Friday.

The Ghanaian player was accused last month of raping two women while he was a player at Arsenal. He faces five rape charges related to two women, in addition to a charge of sexual assault against a third woman, during the period between April 2021 and June 2022.

In a statement, Villarreal said it is "aware that the player is currently involved in legal proceedings in England. The player strongly defends his innocence and denies all the charges against him."

It added that it respects the principle that the accused is innocent until proven guilty "and awaits the court's ruling, which will be responsible for clarifying the facts of the case. According to British law regarding ongoing legal proceedings, the club will not comment on this matter."

It is noted that Partey has participated in 167 matches with Arsenal, scoring nine goals since his arrival from Atletico Madrid in 2020.
