UN Official: Concern Over Possible Consequences of Any Further Escalation That Could Impact Syria
Deputy Special Envoy of the United Nations to Syria, Najat Rochdi, conveyed deep and growing concerns over the possible consequences of any further escalation that could impact Syria in a speech before the Security Council on Tuesday.

Rochdi stated during the speech: "Syria simply cannot bear another wave of instability as the risks of escalation in the region are not hypothetical but imminent, severe, and threaten to undermine the fragile progress towards peace and recovery in Syria."

She also emphasized that Special Envoy Pedersen spent most of the reporting period in Damascus, where discussions with Foreign Minister Ayad Shaban focused on recent positive developments in Syria's international relations and the importance of prioritizing internal affairs in the upcoming phase through a genuine, comprehensive, and credible political transition process involving all Syrians who have confidence in it.

She pointed out that the next important step in the political transition process is the formation of a new People's Council as a transitional legislative authority, welcoming in this regard the recent presidential decree announcing the establishment of a high committee for the parliamentary elections.

Rochdi added: "We continue to welcome and encourage international efforts that contribute to revitalizing the economy".
