Turkey: Significant decrease in the number of Syrian refugees with more than 250,000 returning to their country.

Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya revealed that more than 250,000 Syrian refugees have returned to their country since the fall of the previous regime, noting that "around 27,000 others are currently preparing to return, with expectations of an increase in numbers after the end of the school year and the start of the summer vacation."
This comes as the Turkish Directorate of Migration published the latest data, indicating a significant decrease in the number of Syrians under temporary protection in Turkey after the fall of the previous Syrian regime in late 2024.
The Turkish newspaper "Zaman" quoted the data stating that the number registered on May 22nd reached 2,723,421 Syrians, compared to 3,737,369 at the peak of their presence in 2021.
The Directorate explained that "the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime on December 8, 2024, opened the door for tens of thousands of refugees to voluntarily return to their homes," reflecting a significant shift in population movements after years of seeking refuge.
