The European Union calls on Israel to respect Syria's sovereignty and the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.

In a recent press conference, the spokesperson for the European Union, Anwar Al-Annani, called on Israel to respect Syria's sovereignty and the 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement, stating that "the European Union calls on all parties involved to respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Syria within its recognized borders."
Al-Annani further explained that the European Union "continues to urge Israel to respect the provisions of the 1974 agreement regarding the separation of forces between Syria and Israel in the Golan Heights," emphasizing the "importance of UN Security Council Resolution 497 in this regard."
The spokesperson for the European Commission also stressed the need for "respecting the demilitarized zone, all parties exercising maximum restraint, avoiding any further escalation, ensuring the protection of civilians, and respecting international law, including international humanitarian law."
Al-Annani criticized Israeli practices, stating that Israel "incites against the Damascus government and carries out attacks on Syria under the pretext of protecting the Druze community."
In response to a question about the possibility of gradually lifting sanctions on Syria, Al-Annani indicated that the European Union is "closely monitoring developments on the ground," expressing the Union's intention to "lift sectoral sanctions in a re-imposable manner, with the aim of supporting the reconstruction process in Syria."
