Syrian President Ahmed Al-Shar'a arrived in Kuwait today, June 1st, accompanied by an official delegation, in response to a gracious invitation from His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

This visit aims to strengthen the fraternal cooperation between the two countries, and discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations in political and economic fields, for the benefit of both brotherly peoples and to reinforce Arab solidarity.

The Kuwaiti News Agency (KUNA) reported that this visit holds great significance in the course of relations between Kuwait and Syria, as President Al-Shar'a is scheduled to hold official talks with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, in a step that confirms Kuwait's support for Syria and its people, and its commitment to the unity and sovereignty of Syrian territories.

The agency noted that diplomatic relations between the two countries, officially established on October 24, 1963, experienced a hiatus between 2012 and 2024 due to the circumstances in Syria, before witnessing a new turn on December 30th last year, with the visit of Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya to Damascus in his capacity as the head of the Ministerial Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council, indicating the Gulf states' support for the region's security and stability.

KUNA also highlighted that "on the same day, the first relief airlift to support the Syrian brothers departed from Kuwait, in line with Kuwait's leading humanitarian role and as a confirmation of the Kuwaiti people's solidarity with the Syrian people, aiming to alleviate the suffering of those in need there."

The agency mentioned that Kuwait has reiterated, through multiple statements issued by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs over the past five months, "its unwavering support for the unity and sovereignty of Syria over its entire territories," emphasizing the importance of enhancing international efforts to provide relief to the Syrian people and support them.
