Syria, represented by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Marwan Al-Halabi, participated today, Monday, in the semi-annual meeting of the Arab Union of Scientific Research Councils, hosted by the Arab League, currently chaired by Iraq, held virtually via video in Baghdad with the presence of Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid, and Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Arab world.
In his speech during the meeting, Minister Al-Halabi emphasized that the challenges facing the Arab nation, such as climate change, food, health, and technological crises, can only be addressed through a comprehensive Arab system of scientific research, based on cooperation and integration, and built on developmental and strategic priorities that focus on harnessing the energies of youth, enhancing the role of universities and research centers, and empowering Arab researchers to contribute to global knowledge production.
Minister Al-Halabi also pointed out that despite the war and immense challenges, Syria has not abandoned its support for scientific research, considering it the vanguard in the post-war reconstruction battle, working on establishing domestic and international scientific partnerships, modernizing research infrastructure, and promoting innovation and technological entrepreneurship.
The Minister of Higher Education also called for strengthening the link between scientific research, industry, and development, establishing a joint Arab fund to support strategic research, and creating a unified digital platform for Arab researchers to consolidate efforts and ensure knowledge and resource sharing.
The council discussed topics related to research cooperation, integration, and joint strategic studies among Arab countries, linking scientific research to knowledge economy and sustainable development, external scientific support from research centers and international publishing houses, inclusion of Arab research in global search engines, and activating the role of Arab research centers and scientific publishing.
