In a notable step, the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization expressed their firm rejection of the initiative put forward by the "European Troika" (France, Germany, Britain) to reimpose United Nations Security Council sanctions on Iran.
This was stated in the final communiqué of the summit issued today, Monday, where the member states of the organization confirmed their full support for Security Council Resolution 2231 issued in 2015, which lifted the restrictions imposed on Iran.
The statement indicated that the resolution is binding on all parties, emphasizing the necessity of its implementation in accordance with its provisions.
The statement added that any attempt to interpret the resolution arbitrarily or to circumvent it by some countries constitutes a violation of the authority of the Security Council and negatively affects its credibility.
This stance from the Shanghai states reflects explicit support for Iran amid European efforts to reimpose sanctions, and comes at a sensitive time for the Iranian nuclear file.
