OpenAI has announced a major addition to the smart chatbot ChatGPT, enabling it to perform complex tasks on behalf of users, such as managing appointments or planning trips, in a move that reflects the accelerating competition among technology giants to develop more advanced digital assistants.

The new feature, which has been immediately rolled out, works by integrating the capabilities of ChatGPT Operator with OpenAI's specialized deep search tools, allowing the model to handle advanced requests like 'Review my calendar and inform me of upcoming client meetings' or 'Buy ingredients to prepare a Japanese breakfast for four people.' The company emphasized that the system relies on a dedicated virtual infrastructure to ensure performance efficiency.

The announcement coincided with a demo presentation where OpenAI showcased the capabilities of artificial intelligence in managing complex tasks like wedding planning, where the model succeeded in analyzing hotel options and organizing additional details based on user instructions.

In a related context, OpenAI acknowledged challenges related to model accuracy and privacy concerns, pointing out that artificial intelligence systems are still susceptible to generation errors or biases, as recently seen in the incident involving the Grok robot from xAI that published inappropriate content.

To address these challenges, the company revealed a series of security controls including restricting data available to the model, requiring user approval to complete sensitive tasks like sending emails, as well as training the model to reject high-risk tasks such as financial transactions. Users were also urged to be cautious when granting access permissions to personal data.

These developments come amidst an intense tech race between OpenAI and Google with its assistant 'Jiminy,' as companies strive to redefine user interactions with digital services by replacing manual operations with integrated artificial intelligence solutions.
