"Meta" apologized for a faulty automatic translation of an Indian official's post on some of its social media platforms, indicating his death.
The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reported that the Chief Minister of Karnataka, India, Siddaramaiah, posted a condolence message in Kannada on Facebook and Instagram on Tuesday mourning an actress. However, when the post was automatically translated into English, the translation incorrectly stated that he personally "died".

Social media platforms "Meta" removed 10 million accounts from Facebook due to fake content.
A spokesperson for "Meta" told the Press Trust of India news agency on Thursday that the company "fixed a problem that caused this inaccurate translation for a brief period", adding: "We apologize for that".

Siddaramaiah criticized the automatic translation feature of Kannada language in "Meta", accusing it of "distorting facts and misleading users". He warned of the danger of such faulty translations, especially in the context of official communications.
The media advisor to Siddaramaiah, K. V. Prabhakar, also sent a letter to "Meta" asking them to fix the translation and temporarily suspend the automatic translation of Kannada language until its accuracy improves. He also urged the company to collaborate with language experts to prevent such errors.
However, "Meta" has not announced whether it will suspend Kannada language translations until their accuracy improves, according to the BBC.
