The famous American actor Denzel Washington, a two-time Oscar winner, sparked controversy in the global artistic community after his recent statements in which he confirmed that he no longer watches movies, whether in theaters or even at home, indicating that he has become bored with cinema despite his long career in it.
Washington's statements came during an interview with GQ magazine, which brought him together with director Spike Lee and singer A$AP Rocky, on the sidelines of promoting his new film "Highest 2 Lowest".
The American star explained that his distance from watching films is due to the intensity of his work over more than four decades, as he has participated in more than 40 films since his first appearance in 1981 in "Carbon Copy", adding that he is simply "tired of movies".
The new film represents the fifth collaboration between Washington and director Spike Lee, following a series of notable works such as "Mo’ Better Blues" (1990), *"Malcolm X"* (1992), *"He Got Game"* (1998), and *"Inside Man"* (2006).
Despite being nominated for an Oscar for his role as Malcolm X, Lee believes that Washington deserved to win the award at that time.
During the interview, Washington reiterated that he does not seek awards, stating that his artistic choices are not determined by Oscar considerations or others. He added that he has won awards in situations he did not expect and lost in others where he deserved recognition, but he believes that "the most important recognition comes from God, not from juries".
