Baghdad extends an official invitation to Damascus to attend the upcoming Arab summit.

In a move to enhance Arab solidarity, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa Al-Sudani issued an official invitation today, Wednesday, April 16, 2025, to Syrian President Ahmed Al-Shara to participate in the upcoming Arab summit scheduled to be held in Baghdad on May 17.
This came during a speech by Al-Sudani at the "9th Sulaimaniya International Forum," where he confirmed that President Al-Shara will be present at the summit, expressing Iraq's welcome to the Syrian leadership, in the context of supporting Arab cooperation and strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
In a related context, Iraqi media sources, including "Al-Sumaria News" channel, reported that the Iraqi Prime Minister revealed during the forum his intention to run in the upcoming legislative elections, highlighting his continued active role in the Iraqi political scene.
It is worth mentioning that this invitation comes after a phone call between President Al-Shara and the Sudanese Prime Minister, during which they discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations in political, economic, and security fields, emphasizing the strength of the historical ties between the two brotherly peoples.
