In a quality security operation as part of anti-drug efforts, the Drug Enforcement Administration, in cooperation with the Internal Security Directorate in the city of Al-Safira in Aleppo countryside, managed to thwart an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of hashish intended for export to a European country. The Ministry of Interior stated in a press release issued yesterday, Saturday, that the operation resulted in the seizure of 800 kilograms of hashish, cleverly concealed inside barrels designated for transporting food items, in an attempt to camouflage and bypass inspection and export procedures. The Ministry confirmed that all members of the smuggling cell involved in the operation were arrested, and they have been referred to the competent judiciary to complete investigations and take legal action against them. This operation is part of the ongoing campaign carried out by the Drug Enforcement Administration to reduce the spread of drugs, which pose a direct threat to the health and security of society, especially with the increasing attempts of smuggling abroad, indicating the involvement of organized networks seeking to exploit the situation to traffic their poisons. The Ministry of Interior emphasizes that its security apparatuses continue to dismantle smuggling networks and seize drugs firmly, within a national strategy aimed at protecting the Syrian society from this dangerous scourge.
