In his speech before the United Nations Security Council during a session to discuss the situation in Syria today, Friday, Syrian Foreign Minister and Expatriates Asaad al-Shaaban said: "I am pleased to address you after raising the flag of Syria alongside the flags of 193 countries, a flag that represents a symbol of change after years of pain and victims."
He added: "After the fall of the Assad regime, Syria has finally begun to breathe and received visits from personalities from various countries around the world and its refugees worldwide."
Al-Shaaban continued: "I am here today to represent the new Syria, and we will continue tirelessly to achieve peace and justice for all affected by the Assad regime," and continued: "For the first time, major international organizations were granted access to our lands, something that the defunct regime rejected."
Al-Shaaban mentioned that airplanes in Syria are now dropping flowers instead of explosive barrels, indicating a decisive response to the drug trafficking that was threatening the region.
He emphasized that Syria is coordinating with the international community to confront terrorist threats and effectively cooperate to resolve the issue of chemical weapons.
Al-Shaaban stated, "The remnants of the defunct regime attempted to ignite a civil war in Syria by instigating events on the coast."
He continued: "We unified the military factions and ended the era of factionalism, and soon we will announce a transitional justice body and a missing persons commission."
In a related context, he said, "Syria is diverse but not divided into sects and minorities, and some Syrian Jews have returned to their country for the first time after the regime fell and visited their synagogues."
Al-Shaaban added: "Sanctions burden our country, and their continuation prevents capital inflows, they must be lifted to revive the economy and achieve stability."
He also stressed that Israeli attacks on Syria are a direct threat to regional stability, calling on the international community to pressure Israel to stop them.
Al-Shaaban raised the new Syrian flag in front of the United Nations headquarters in New York today, Friday, April 25th.
