Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka faced an emotional moment at her press conference after her exit from the US Open semifinals, as she appeared to be on the verge of tears following a sarcastic question about the "Laboobo" dolls she usually brings with her to matches.
Osaka lost to American Amanda Anisimova with a score of 6-7 (4-7) and 7-6 (7-3) and 6-3, missing the chance to compete for a third title at "Flushing Meadows," one of the four major "Grand Slam" tournaments.
While she expressed her disappointment at squandering her lead during the match, the situation became more difficult when a journalist sarcastically asked her about the "next Laboobo doll," to which she bitterly replied, "Don't make me cry, man... that question is very painful."
Osaka had drawn attention throughout the tournament by showcasing a collection of specially made "Laboobo" dolls, each named after a tennis legend, adorned with crystals and a small racket, so much so that some media outlets referred to them as her "lucky charms" as the player who won the championship in 2018 and 2020.
